I think most artists have a problem with discarding. In TV “reality” land this is currently known as hoarding and is being rtitually stigmatized. But consider this; If  Alexander Calder   hadn’t collected a barn full of junk he would have lacked the material to create most of his Mobile sculptures.  I’ve been collected by bits and pieces of old wood, hardware, pipe organ parts & etc. since I was a teenager, my explanation for this has always been “It followed me home, can I keep it?

Recently my gaze fell upon a sculpture that I assembled in 2005, and never quite finished, and now, looking at it with different eyes I had some new ideas and a bit of time, so I picked it up again. After a few hours work I reached a stopping point, but not I felt a completion. Not knowing what else to do I decided to photograph the piece from different viewpoints. While looking at the pictures I wondered about trying some digital manipulation to play with re-arranging the forms. Well…….one thing led to another.

We’re presently  at work on several new projects, so here is one we did a few  years ago, somehow we never photographed it, and because it’s still packed, all I have for a visual is the instruction sheet. Oh, and the audio files, which are the best part. For your listening pleasure here is Pray O Mat, featuring Susan as the Rev Smiler-Egret.

Let’s see if this works…..    II >
